***********************************************

I have wanted a Star Trek costume for such a long time. And finally, here it is. This is one of my favorite things I've made so far this year. <3

I have plans to do a ST XIII inspired Kirk costume with my friend :iconledibug: as my Spock, but since she couldn't go to Megacon, I didn't want to make that costume yet and wear it without her. So I got to thinking about what I could make that would do well as a stand alone outfit. I have always loved the ridiculous avocado green wrap around shirt they put Shatner in occasionally on TOS. It's just such a... NOT manly thing to wear. It's a WRAP AROUND BLOUSE for goodness sake. Gotta love the 60's.

Well anyway, if you're down with the Trek fandom lingo, you know that over the years this outfit has come to be known by the hilarious name of Fatshirt!Kirk, under the presumption that the top was picked for its slimming effect. I guess the girdles just weren't cutting it anymore... ;D Anyway, I started looking through ref pics of the costume, and decided it would look great as a dress.

I used a Simplicity pattern for the base, and made a few little alterations of my own. The fabric is a jersey knit (it's so soft and comfy!). The gold trim is this godawful tinfoil feeling stuff that I would NOT recommend working with, but I got it at a wholesale fabric store for 20 cents a roll, so no complaints from me. It looks gaudy and sparkly enough for the job, so it worked. But it was a pain in the butt to sew and kept pulling weird in the machine.

I have to give a little shout out and thanks to :iconanaaesthetic: for helping me finish this up Friday night of Megacon because I didn't feel like sewing sleeves on, lol. Thanks for the help, dear, couldn't have finished it without you! <3

that's a different take on the wraparound casual duty uniform. I rather like it! though, the delta goes over the left breast; not the right

I'm a sucker for that shirt because I love it, so I may be biased, but really, your dress/uniform looks great! XD

LOL , you look much better in it then Kirk ever did . In this picture you look like a Star Ship captain . Good thing you weren't around for Voyageur or Janeway wouldn't have gotten the job . Honestly , I don't watch the reruns that often and I saw it the first time in black and white and never knew Kirk was wearing green .

Thank you so much for doing a Kirk crossplay. This is honestly the best thing that's happened to me all week, and it's just awesome.
